I use Daphile. I don't have a problem with it except it requires a second PC to operate the GUI.
Is there a similar software that will allow you to use the same PC as a GUI? I need to keep it simple. Copy CDs, play random, don't need network at the moment.

I would give JRiver a try. I used it to convert a few hundred Cd's to Flac. I currently use Audirvana and HQ Player for playback because it sounds better than JRiver. They have a free trial version of JR.

If you do not like the way JR sounds you could use it to convert your CD's and use a different player for playback.
If you want a pretty good free music player, take a look at Hysolid player. I occasionally use it but prefer Audirvana.

For a very good freeware music player, I recommend MusicBee: https://www.getmusicbee.com/ (https://www.getmusicbee.com/). I used it for many years before switching to Audirvana with Qobuz.

I have Music Bee and Hysolid sounds better and is easier to use. Hysolid can also be controlled via your phone.

What other suggestions do you guys have that is freeware, not a trial version, and not asking for personal information?

I think Foobar 2000 will do what you want. https://www.foobar2000.org/
It's free and might take a little work to configure. As I recall ripping was real slow. And I would add that is art is easy to add I would do it.
Also I think LMS or Logitech Media Player https://www.mysqueezebox.com/download for a player. It wont rip and is rather easy to use. LMS is minaminly supported as their hardware has been off the market for years.

Just pony up the $69 for JR if you have a lot of CD's to rip. The interface is easy to use and ripping CD's is easy and you can control the speed of the rip as well as the sample rate. Its music library is excellent. For playback, use Hysolid, as it is free and works great.

On LMS there is a Random button, looks like a pair of Dice. Select Dice. Then you have a choice of Song mix, Album mix Artist Mix, Year Mix and Below that there is select Genres. Or years.
So go through you Genres and select.
I personally use song mix random and my entire collection is gone through.
There is also in Settings, Don't stop the music. If you select 1 or 100 songs when it gets to the end it can play a radio/ stream or Some Random configuration of your choice.
