Dead?

I just rolled in from Vegas and I'm exhausted.

While THE Show might have been dead for some, the VMPS Room was Packed almost every second.

This was absolutely true.  A lot of the rooms and hallways were pretty empty, but walking into the VMPS/Audience room, it was standing-room only.  A very good-sounding room!

John, it was good to finally meet you in person! 8)

Hi Everyoine,

   Great photos Phil!

Ok, read all five pages here and think my show during writings and recent editorial ( http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/viewpoint/0107/ces_2007_the_show.htm ) pretty much sums it up for me. Yes, with the CES' Venetian being far away from THE Show's St Tropez many of us within the industry were curious as to the results. It appears both shows were a sucess on various levels.

Of course the RMAF is a great show, no doubt about it. While it is no CES, where a manufacturer can hopefully get quite a few new international distributors, the RMAF is a great place to meet people and conduct some business. CES / THE Show draws in a stagger amount of people (140,000+), all of which **should** be within the industry. Of course the RMAF is a public event mainly, yet without a doubt in my mind the best American public show available.

Anywho, just my humble 2 Yen. Hope you guys enjoyed the coverage. Please remember i posted separate show reports for the CES and THE Show. Because each event is different, it is only fair to do the same in reporting IMO.

I did in fact miss the AVN show this year .  But yes, even if I did go and take pictures, I think there are other kinds of forums that would be more appropriate for posting the pictures (although I'm sure the appreciation level would be just as good here)

Btw Steve...any favorites from the show?

Yes, the AVM show

Ok, seriously, my fave part of the show was the after hours party at NFS Audio (Not For Sale Audio). Free-flowing drinks, pizza, and i met the President of Shelby motors, who after much discussion it appears they want me to run a few cars on their private test track in Nevada. As for audio, many good things and really decided to not do an all-out show report and, instead, focus on many of what was my fave things at the show. Maybe i am getting old, or perhaps a bit wise after 100+ shows, yet realize it is better to report on things i truly love or find interesting rather than just run around and take a kabillion photos to cover everything. This way i spend more time on what i like and pass by what is of little interest to me. Of course i am sure i missed seeing some things, as BOTH SHOWS are large and am only one guy who wears many hats.

Maybe next CES they'll have a human cloning machine... four times the show goodies with half the effort! i could go for that! :)

THE SHOW is alive and almost well with many innovative audiophile companies. It did have less traffic and fewer manufacturers this year. THE SHOW has a friendly atmosphere as opposed to the Venetian’s cold, corporate, buttoned-up feel. The rent-a-cops were everywhere, even guarding the stairwells to discourage one from walking up four flights of stairs.

CES killed their yucky hamburger lunch since moving out of Alexis Park, so one can buy from the venues at the Venetian. THE SHOW improved their lunch offering and varied it daily.

THE SHOW provided a van shuttle to the Casino Royale next to the Venetian. The van was out front at the Saint Tropez, but would be difficult to find from the Venetian. There was a fight for elevators at the Venetian to get to the 29+ floors. Imagine what it was like for the manufacturers who all get off at the same time. In addition, there were no public restrooms on the high-rise demo floors.
Manufacturers at the Venetian complained about not being allowed to remove (on threat of being kicked-out) a large TV center that blocked their sound and/or limited the seating.

THE SHOW still operated from 9am to 6pm, while the Venetian started at 8am, closing at 5pm. I suppose CES did this to discourage people from going to THE SHOW, but it worked against them as the Las Vegas Convention Center operated from 9am to 6pm. I showed up at the Venetian at 8am on the second day of CES and most of the rooms were locked.

Finally, THE SHOW has the respite of the NFS Audio (Not For Sale Audio) where one can stop in for a beer, water or wine. However, if you need your mouth and throat burned, the two residing immunologists who run the suite will administer a 190-proof anis flavored liqueur.

I do hope THE SHOW survives.

Although it wasn’t my main objective as a dealer, I took about 40 pictures, which I am uploading to my website:
