Wiring help for Volume Attenuator needed
« on: 11 Feb 2023, 06:01 pm »
Hello, getting ready to change out this volume pot. I'm just not sure where to solder the yellow wire to the new pot, since it's not the same.
I've circled the wire that's in question. It needs to attach to the volume attenuator on the right.

Thank you,

RPF

Those are switches. There is no volume function on those if they aren't filled with resistors.

Do you have a multimeter? You should be able to detect which are the constant connections that go to the rotating pieces inside.

It's really hard to know what you're doing exactly without seeing/knowing more.

How many positions does it have? This might work but I'm not sure what is doing the volume, is it a transformer? Take a photo of the back side on the original switch. It looks like only one deck is being used so maybe the new one will work.

It's a 23 step switch. Here's a couple pictures that shows the mods that were completed by someone else.

Ok so these are TVC's or something. You'll just be matching the pattern except the sweeper you need to find. It shouldn't be too hard once you get them unsoldered on the original but you'll have to write down the pattern of everything. The switch I had like the original the sweeper was offset a little bit IIRC. The bad news is those switches suck and have some unexplainable self signature/noise. This is absolutely an upgrade.

Notice in the upgrade pics where the wire colors are at on the upgraded unit. Maybe the black ones on the right? You can check the Amtrans sweeper location and collate the wire color to the original based on pictures perhaps?
