Bobby at Merlin thinks that the high damping factor of Nuforce (4000) and Channel Islands amps (1000) would hurt the sound quality of his speakers. In January I plan to do a comparo of the Ref 8 and CI D100s for our local AC folks. My speakers are Merlin TSM-MMs. These are the newest "magic mod" Merlins, and one of the most revealing monitors I have ever heard. How is the high damping of these amps gonna screw up the sound?

claud,
I've tried lots of amps with my TSM-MM's; and while amps with lower damping factors (mostly tubed) sound better with them- it's not always the case. Some (emphasize: some) high damping amps will make the Merlins sound 'thin'. Some will not, however.
(lot's of factors contribute to how an amp will sound with a given speaker)
Look forward to your report!

Damping factor is dominated by the speaker cables anyway. I doubt that the high damping factor has much if anything to do with how these amplifiers will mate up with your speakers.
