I really want the 46" Sony Bravia XBR 1080p LCD, but I'm waiting until the price drops by 1/2 or I get a lot more money (by then LCDs will have LED backlighting, so that might be worth waiting for).  But Bravia is definitely worth looking at if you're in the LCD market or if you haven't seen what LCDs are capable of recently.

I gave my last TV to a nursing home and, ever since I got into hifi ,I have been listening to nothing but music and also started going to the movies again.  I forgot how much fun that was.

We don't even have HDTV in Denmark and a Phillips 26 inch flat screen costs about $900, so why bother?

Damn, and to think I held out for so long waiting for the prices to fall, then got impatient and bought my 42" NEC in June for a whooping 2500$...most expensive single piece of electronics I ever bought in my lifetime...just had to see the World Cup bigger than my old 27" tv.
 :duh:

Hey!

Well, on the bright side... at least you watched and enjoyed the World Cup on bigger screen :D Was it more fun on bigger 42" screen? My new LCD is only 27"

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

When it comes to video, bigger is better as long as quality doesn't suffer.

If you really wanted to watch the World Cup in style, you needed an 8' wide screen, none of this little "girly" stuff measured in inches.

Sure was more fun Buddy on the bigger screen. Was in HD when ABC carried some games, beautiful!
I would need a much bigger space to start measuring in feet. If I project an 8' picture, I would have to watch that picture on the street outside from thru my window
It would be like a drive in...remember them days?

Depends on which game you were watching.  IMHO, the U.S games against Czechoslovakia and Ghana deserved something like a fuzzy 14-inch black & white TV.

If you are one of the lucky or brave one to fall-in line at BestBuy Thanksgiving night.  They had a 42" Panny for $1K!  Sweet!

Wow, just picked up a Panasonic TH-42PX60U for $1299 off of Amazon, with free shipping. It also falls under their return policy for holiday purchases - extending until 1/31/07 - if something is wrong.

Things sure have come down a lot this year. I'll be watching some good movies on this screen this Christmas. :thumb:

I paid $5400 for my Panasonic 42" but it was more like 5 years ago.

If it's 480p/720p/1080i screen, then it's not 1080p... 8)

Still a superb TV.... :thumb:

Yes you will see a lot of 480p/720p/1080i sets that are really coming down in price, whether they be Plasma, DLP, LCD, or even CRT (my Sony 40XBR800 is discontinued - don't get the replacement).

Just realize they are not 1080p, which is the (current) holy grail of HDTV. This is what the XBox 360 and PS3 make a big deal about, but relatively few console gamers (or anyone else) have sets that can do 1080p.

Currently very few games output 1080p
DVD can't take advantage of 1080p without upconverting, so they are really not 1080p are they

But HD-DVD and Blueray can do 1080p -
so if you have an HD-DVD player (or the XBox with HD-DVD add-on) or a Blueray player (or the PS3)
and
a TV that can do 1080p (the expensive ones)
...you can watch in 1080p!

Actually, it isn't even technically HD as it is 1024x768.

It can display 720p and 1080i, but only as a down converted image.

Don't get me wrong, it can create some beautiful images when fed a good HD signal, but I wanted to make sure people understood what the set actually is.

Congrats on the purchase.
