In a recent thread Ferdi asked:

Now, which brand of subwoofer should I use with it?

IMHO there is only one sensible advice: Get an REL from their ST-series (STRATA$, STORM$$, STADIUM$$$, STENTOR$$$$, STUDIO$$$$$). Check out www.rel.net.

These subs will give you a brilliant sub for Hi-Fi ( ) no matter how deep your front speakers will go and it will be very good for movies as well. I connect mine via the speaker output, not the line level sub-output from my AV-Receiver. Any REL ST have independent high- and low-level inputs so you can run cables for both for different purposes, but at least on my STRATA III the switching between the two inputs is manual :(  hence I use just one input for all.

Of course there are other good subs out there, but you won't go wrong with an REL - this of course being IMHO  :)

Oh, OK. Can I borrow yours for the next 3 years?

I try to keep it down as is with my neighbours having a new kid.

I can make the room tremble no problem. The question on the sub was only in jest. Thanks for the advice though.

Hmm, I think something based around the Adire Tumult would be a good sub for LOTR :-)

It looks even meaner than my Blueprint 1503 based sub:

WOW!

This is the sort of engineering that makes me very greedy! I can just about see a nice big sub sitting next to each of my Dynaudio's.

My relationship with my neighbours will suffer though.

Two wives!  Are you crazy!?  That would mean two people screaming at you all the time, telling you no, do this, do that, and then two people would be shooting you down with the ol' "Not tonight, I have a headache."  And then, inevitably, two people would take half of your stuff, but since two people are taking half, that would leave you with nada.

No, I say go with two subs.

Good evening shoppers over at AudioLiquidators, we have the Blueprint 1503 for $175
http://www.audioliquidators.com/sub.html

Last I checked the Tumult is just releasing this week in US for $499.

Another good deal is Lambda drivers, they are going out of business...
http://www.lambdacoustics.com/pricing.html
Lambda 15" LE  $99 each
Lambda 15" SB, PB, TD, PRO, DIPOLE, MOBILE LF, MOBILE SPL - $179 each

Any opinions on these,

Al
