Assuming your blond veneer is the same type of printed laminate material as that used in my grey elm GIK panels, you should be able to paint these with no issues but a finish that looks like a stain would be trickier. The laminate material isn't going to absorb stain like a wood finish, so application of a semi transparent or transparent stain is going to work like a glaze instead of a stain. If you are skilled at faux finishing, no problem. I'd use an acrylic glaze finish instead of an oil based wood stain though if you want a semi trans or transparent finish. As previously mentioned, you'll need to remove the rigid panel you're refinishing from the fabric panel first. Good refinishing practice for a repaint with opaque paint generally holds that scuffing the finish first with sandpaper of appropriate grit is good practice.
