XLR connectors

Hi John, in your kit instructions it says that the XLR connectors on the preamp back panel are "female". Is there a convention of which way to use male and female connectors, as I thought a "male"would have been better here on the input so there would be no chance of shorting the pins on the input cable ? Does that make sense?
And do you or anyone else have a preference for metal bodied XLR over plastic bodies--or vice versa?
thanks, tim

I found some mini XLR connectors which look great with very small pins and small bodies so will go with them. As I have braided my own interconnects I can customize the connectors.
Anyone else tried them?

Hi Tim,

On the preamp the xlr-outputs are male, and the xlr-inputs are female.
This is a standard.
