Take me to the beach! [T.H.E. Newport Beach]
« on: 29 May 2013, 01:10 am »
All,

I hope to see many of you west coasters at T.H.E. Newport Beach this week.  I'm leaving on a jet plane early tomorrow AM:

http://www.theshownewport.com/

Please visit us in the Atrium Room 343 - we'll be teaming with with Bricasti (with their updated M1 dac) and
Harbeth's USA importer (Fidelis AV) - this time with a pair of SHL5's!

Just like The New York Audio show last month, we'll have the new Isabella 6H30 (Renassiace Edition) preamplifier +
Liliana R.E. Monoblock combo, as well as the upcoming "Signature 57" Integrated (which will have options for built-in
Bellina PRO dac, Analogica phonostage, and/or our RWA headphone stage).  This is a serious, high-current
integrated that delivers a clean 57wpc into 8-ohm, and 115wpc into 4-ohm, and 2-ohm stability.  It is
based on the Liliana Class AB, discrete FET design.  It is also our largest product @ 18" W x 14" D x 5" H.

As aways, please feel free to bring your music to listen to and enjoy.

Cheers!

Vinnie

All,

We had another excellent show and I want to thank everyone who stopped in the Red Wine Audio / Bricasti / Harbeth room
at Newport Beach!  :thumb:

We had a special guest in our room on Saturday - Grammy award-winning engineer David Reitzas!  http://reitzas.com/
David is friends with Damon from Bricasti (Bricasti has gained much popularity on the pro audio side over the years).  It was an honor to meet David, and I was floored when he asked if he could connect his Macbook to our system.  Those in our room (including a timely visit from John Atkinson) were treated to AMAZING unmastered tracks of the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Barbra Streistand and more.  David literally plopped himself on the floor with his Macbook running his Protools software and starting making magic - pretty much bringing these artists into our room!  It was spooky how real they all sounded.  It was nothing like listening to their albums - this was on a whole other level of realism and emotion!  You'd have to be there to understand how much of an (unexpected) treat this was! :singing:

Some coverage on Stereophile.com:

http://www.stereophile.com/content/red-wine-audio150harbeth150bricasti

It was great to see John Darko of digitalaudioreview.com come over from Australia to visit as well:

http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2013/06/t-h-e-show-newport-beach-2013-part-3/

He was happy that I let him play some of the tracks he loaded on a USB stick.  I still don't understand how any MFGR. can do a show and not let the guests play the music that they want to hear.  Sure - I understand that some recordings aren't great and don't make the room sound as good as others, but these are recordings that people want to hear how a system handles, and that is why I pay $$$ to get a room at these shows.  The next show I exhibit at will have a big sign in the hallway saying something like, "Yes - you CAN bring in YOUR music to listen to in this room.  So loosen up, come on it, have fun and enjoy it!"  I want people to hear my gear playing what they want to listen to so they can get an idea how it handles the what they want to throw its way.  I already know how it sounds with music that I'm playing!  Those who brought their own music and listened to it generally seemed to have a big ol' smile on their faces, their heads were bobbing, their feet were tapping.  They were having FUN.  This is what it is all about!  :guitar:

It was no surprise that the Signature 57 and the Lilianas really gelled with the Harbeth SHL5s (we had the same great results at the New York Show with the 30.1s)!  The Bricasti M1 (now compatible with DSD files - and Damon had his Macbook loaded with some live classical recordings - you know, the ones where you can hear the breathing of the musicians and the little creaking in their seats as they move") was running its minimal phase filter and was a stunning addition to the RWA/Harbeth combo in this room!

I'll post more links to show reports when I get some more time to crawl the web.

Thanks again to everyone who visited and make the show a lot of fun!

Vinnie

Sorry I missed the room.  If you put that sign outside I'll find it next year.

How does the preamp sound with the 6H30DR in it?

Sal's not kidding.  I had a stick with the remixed Machine Head CD and we blasted Space Truckin' out into the hall (I think I got him in a little trouble, hehe).  I sure wish I had been there when Reitzas dropped by.  I work in audio too (for film) and I think it's fair to say that what is considered good enough in the mastering stage is inadequate for the equipment we enjoy our music on.  I'm almost always disappointed when we listen to the Print Master.

Thanks again SAL!

Vinnie the room sounded excellent! I had stopped by specifically to hear the Bricasti and was fortunate enough to hang out and talk shop with David and Damon. David was extremely down to ear and pleasant to chat with. I walked away very impressed by the gear in the room and the company. Regretfully I didn't get to hear David's files, but hey, it was still a great day.

Hi abernardi,

Sal's the man!!!  Wait a minute - who's Sal?   Glad you had fun rocking out, and nice to meet you in person!

Hi santacore,

Nice meeting you, too!  Yeah - David was so down-to-earth.  He's worked with some serious superstars and I didn't even realize it until I asked him more about it.  He was just having fun enjoying learning about the "home audio side" of things.  Thanks for coming in to listen!

In my country we pronounce the letter "S" as you would say, "vin" in yours.  In Russian it would be "win" and I don't know how to write in Polish.  Your vowel "A", in much of my language is essentially the same as yours.  However, in my village dialect, it would be something approaching an "eeee".  And "L".... well everyone knows that in my part of the world, "L" is silent.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for sharing the link!  Nice work to you, too!

Hi jhm731,

The ALO Studio Six is a really good headphone amp - I can see why John Darko gave it best in show!

Cheers,

A big "thank you" to Paul Mah of www.dagogo.com who just submitted an article containing his favorite rooms at THE Newport Beach
Show, which included ours:

http://dagogo.com/t-h-e-newport-beach-2013-audio-show-report/2

Check out the CD he mentioned that he brought in to hear our demo system - it was really good!  Nice to hear something new.  8)

Best regards,
