REW

Finally getting around to taking some measurements. Took a while to get the connections right. I'll get in some serious sessions when we return.

Thanks for the inspiration. I need to do the same.

I need to quit avoiding this learning curve but when there's a choice of listening or measuring...???

I actually just fired up REW for the first time last night.   I have the calibrated mic, but haven't hooked it up yet.   This looks to have a steep learning curve.

I'm in the same boat. I have the gear in the closet but haven't ventured down the road yet. All glances at it make it look complex. I need an "idiots" guide or something! :icon_lol:

There is a lot to the program.  Use the online resources and just go for it.  Post results here and people will help guide you in the process.  I'm still learning how to use it but the process has taught me a lot about speaker design.

There are some really good YT videos on REW. In particular, by Jeff Mery and also Home Theater Gurus - episodes 7 and 8 are about REW and subs but cover a lot of material.

I have all the gear as well from Acoustisoft I bought years ago when I knew REW quite well. I tried to revisit it years later to start taking room measurements with the M3's and can't seem to remember half of it ! I've been using the M33 Dirac-Live program to just capture frequency response. I need REW to start treating room properly. Maybe I'll have my teenage son show me.

^Excellent idea. Guess I'm not going to get any feedback from the experts.

What exactly are you measuring with this?  One speaker?  Both Speakers and a subwoofer?

If you take 3 measurements, we will be able to learn a lot more.  Measure just the speaker, then just the sub, then both of them together.  Overlay them on one graph.
Also, where are you placing the microphone for the measurements?  Generally, we measure from the listening position or one meter from the axis of the tweeter.
It looks to me like you might be slightly off axis of the tweeter since the top end is going down in frequency response, but not too drastically.  What speakers are you measuring?

Measuring Wedgies on the latest graph. The graph above was Super Minis. I'll take some more measurements ASAP. Probably Monday.

thanks

green line is full range

Blue is H frame subs

Red and purple are wedgies' and super minis 200-20,000

Measured on axis @ 3'. I'm surprised the Wedgies and super minis measure the same.

That's pretty good results.  If it were me, I'd use the built in EQ on the sub to knock down that bump at 35hz and then raise the overall level of the subs to match closer to the 200hz crossover point.

The Y axis scaling is 20dB - not going to be able to tell a thing with that.

Doh, you are right.  I assumed it was a 10db scale & just didn't look.

I like to set REW to a 5 dB scale. It makes it a lot easier to read.
