It sounds ok to me, I hear a lot of distortion. I guess with a tube amp it will be nice. But solid state amps will reveal all that distortion and it will be not so pleasant..

Tube amps are way more forgiving and pleasant to distortion .  I would call it “ pleasant distortion “.

I see it was a 1965 recording making it an 8 on a 1-10 scale for that time period. If it had been a recording of the last ten years I’d give it a 6.5. It sounds very much like a mass produced recording in the pop and country genres of today. Guess I should say the pop/country music of the 80’s and 90’s. That’s when much of the music I like was recorded and it sounds like someone was rather hard of hearing and the mid’s were pushed as high as possible. Rare to really find a well recorded album from that period. There were a few but, they were few and far between. Nancy Griffith and Mary Chaplin Carpenter were two just off the top of my head. But, the labels were wanting to sell albums and people gravitated to louder sounding better unfortunately. Anyway, long answer to a simple question.

I think it sounds pretty good.  Plus, I like songs about cars.

The 320k mp3 internet radio version I heard was much better than the one from youtube.
It sounded quite good. None of the typical vocal distortion, quiet background, okay instrument timbre, overall a pretty clean recording. A bit on the thin side, like any AM radio mix.

It sounds like the channels are reversed.

Marvin Gaye - Ain't That Peculiar

Pick your own listening source for the second trial. The question is, given the hard panned stereo effect is this reduced the louder you play it resulting in a larger soundstage and a more homogenous reproduction. Is the listening volume (loud) critical to impressions of recording accuracy.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

Interesting song, seems a proto Funk, barely good, short and fast to air radio.

Hi, FRM
What I was most interested in is how mid 60s AM radio compressed, hard panned, frequency restricted, high distortion, mainly tube amplified songs sound to anyone.
