Title: PuriFi low distortion long throw drivers...
Post by: barrows on 18 Jul 2019, 07:14 pm
Hey Rick, perhaps these are on your radar?

https://www.purifi-audio.com/transducers/

With the long excursion/low distortion they seem like they might make a really good two-way with 2xPuriFis + a nice beryllium dome tweeter.  Seems like they will move a fair amount of air for a 6.5" driver.

I've only read about them - no personal experience at this time.

Interesting. I thought they're into class D only.

Yay, another Bruno Class D module extravaganza! I can’t wait till someone plops it into a nice fancy case, and charges 15K for it!

The fact that you can get a NC1200 module amp now for 3K and some change is hysterical, when just two to three years ago, they were five figures for the same exact modules.

Any MSRP on the driver?

Bruno and PuriFi are going to make the new modules available to the DIY market, thus somewhat limiting heinous markups.

Real world application could be tricky. It's a 4ohm driver and once you factor in baffle step compensation efficiency will drop. So you're potentially looking at at best a 85db 4ohm woofer, maybe 82db. So it's going to need a beefy amp to drive it. All assumptions of course.

Have you then just solved one problem, and created another? What’s the point of a low distortion driver, if you have to ramp up amplifier distortion for it to play at decent levels?

Maybe that’s why they have the new amp that meant for the woofer.

The power/distortion figures are impressive!
