I would start out by building a good dedicated listening room. Then I'd get a pair of the GedLee Summa Cum Laude speakers, several of Earl's bandpass subs, and for electronics I might well go with Bryston. (Bryston would be on my short list anyway.)

I think I'd pick up some storage, like maybe EMC's AX4 series, and an HP server or two to connect to the storage. I'm not exactly sure what I'd get to tie that in to my stereo system, but I think I'd get a Squeezebox Touch for starters.

I'd go nuts at the record store(s) and then hire someone to rip all the CDs. :)

It might also be interesting to try multi-channel recordings, so I'd add some GedLee Harpers for those, and then the Bryston SP2 looks like a very good bet.

Hector does look kind of fierce, but I'm sure he is a sweet fellow.

You think he looks fierce in this photogarph? You should see Hector with his head out of the car window at 50 km per hour, his baggy lips covers his forehead - on the bright side, nothing will be able to get blown into his eyes.

I was a little buzzed last night, sorry, but here goes....Dyna SCA-35 integrated amp,Dyna-FM-3 tuner,AR-AX turntable, and the AR-3A acoustic loudspeaker.I saved an ad from 1964 in High Fidelity magizine that said that was the best combo for the money and the day.If I had my old scanner I would print it out for you all,I'll work on that..Mark K.

Mac Mini w/internal SSD / external FireWire SSD / iPad and iPod Touch controllers
Wavelength Crimson DAC
BAT VK-52SE Preamp
BAT VK-600SE Power Amp
Salk Soundscape 10 or Clearwave Duet10SE

Around $40-$45K

I could spend more of my virtual money, but why?  This would satisfy me.  I'd get more satisfaction by spending any additional funds on a few more copies of this system as gifts for a few friends.

Your luckier than me apparently......The first time my previous German shorthaired pointer had a car ride I had to take her to the vet for eye problems....she ended up going almost completely blind because of it.She could see only 5 or so inches,Needless to say I will never let any dog of mine do that again.

If money were no object--which seems to be the point of the OP's question--I'd get George Augsperger to design and build a listening room and install a soffit-mounted speaker system (he usually uses TAD drivers in his own cabinet designs). I'd probably keep my Technics SP-10MKII turntables in their DIY panzerholz plinths, but would experiment with different arms and cartridges. For digital I'd probably keep the BCD-1, the BDA-1, the Universal Audio 2192 and the Esoteric and Teac VRDS transports, but I would also have a go with some of Ed Meitner's EMM Labs gear. Might add a pair of Barefoot Sound MicroMain 27 for nearfield listening. Likely would stick with the Mogami cables I already use. For amps and preamps, I'd start out with the designer's recommendations and go from there. . .

I am happy with my amp and cd player. I would like to add the BDP-1 eventually.

My speaker system would be replaced with something like this though:

Actually heard those ($35k?) Focals about a week ago.  They sounded really nice.  The pictures actually make me want to get into car stereo again. :green:

My ultimate system and listening room...

Wouldn't have to worry about if it sounded live or not.

I would buy Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado for a summer listening room and invite a few friends to join me.

To get this back on track....

I'd have a pair of  28B SST2's

A BP26

A Bryston BCD-1 CD player

The BDA-1

A Torus RM20 or two (if needed)

A music server as a digital source

For Spearkers, I don't know. I'd have to re-audition speakers.  PMC's would definitely get a listen.
