Prelude,

What about a poll on C / Pro models?

I find myself wondering why didn't I purchase a 4B SST2 PRO ... perhaps I'm still in time.

Fernando.
Hi Fernardo,
I just did not want to make a very long list.
So you can just vote under the model which one you like the most it includes all. :thumb:

What would be different about the PRO model that would make you choose it over the consumer model?

Could be nonsense, but the handles look more rugged on the PRO - they seem to have screws on their front faces, an upper and a lower screw on each handle.
Those handles are most useful.
I'm taking the pictures at Bryston.com as reference.

A "purist" might choose the Consumer version with the reasoning that if the input level does not need to be attenuated, why have the input go through the additional input level potentiometer of the Pro model?

True, and that was my reasoning too until I noticed the handles ...
Not only that, but also the fact that another potentiometer is another piece of circuitry that could eventually fail.

I asked James if having those extra controls would hinder the audio signal. He said no effect.. As for the pro handles they are more serious looking and can be removed if desired. In some ways I have thought that the pro version may be more thoroughly tested or built for reliability ( but that's just a notion.) When I do get a new 4B it will be the Pro in black. :thumb:

Some of the consumer models have handles on the back, really convenient as you can carry them to position and place on
carpet back up to connect everything. They also protect the connectors a bit.
Maybe it's just the heavier amps?

Plus you save a lot of money buying from a pro audio dealer.

I have had lots of Bryston staff... 5B ST, 8B ST, then went with 4B SST2 and 9B SST2 and though the 4B was the beast, but till i didn't heard and then get a couple of 7B SST2.
That's an other world  8)
I'm actually running my 7.1 system with 7B's (R/L) + 4B (C) + 9B (surrounds)...

I'm also getting a couple of mono Mark Levinson 436 these days and will try them with the 7B's.
Will see witch one i'll keep...

Very nice...My ST has never sounded so good thanks to the powercord  (Nordost Vishnu). Perhaps the newer amps don't  benefit as much but the older ST seems to like it. I voted for the 4B sstsq.  as my probable replacement . :thumb:

Hi all,

Made some changes in my system.
Everything's on XLR now (Supra) and i got those great cables from Nordost (SPM reference speakers on bi-wiring) for my speakers.
Also tried the Mark Levinson N°436 mono blocs against my 7B SST2, and, well... i'm switching to the ML.
I was just blown away by the 436.
We did a lot of direct A/B listenings and the difference was amazing.
I really loved my 7B's (what an amp !!!), but will start a new life with these ML  8)

They are a bit slower and more colored than the 7B's, but the stage/life/naturalness provided are just from another world. They also go deeper (infra) than the 7B's...
So impressed !

I wouldn't switch to an amp cooled by "whisper" fans.
But that's me.

Enjoy

Even though i do not own them, not am I ever likely to be able to afford them, the 28B-SST2 are my holy grail of amps..
I own a Bryston 4B-SST2 and it is wonderful.
Everything I add to make better sound, the 4B-SST2 is right there amplifying that sound. Amazingly great amplifier. And the longer I own it, and work on making my system better.. The Bryston 4B-SST2 keeps right up.. I may never get to the limit of it's ability to produce great music.
So after carefully considering i voted for what i own, the 4B-SST2.
Apparently I am out of the doghouse..

I voted for the 28B SST² amplifier as they go a long way to support and foster the most fragile male ego and increase the blissful feeling of self-worth.

Be well...

I voted for the one I'm still waiting to arrive home: the 4B SST²
At FaxCargo [WarehouseReceipt 72473] - since July 27 2012, FedEx had picked it up at Buffalo NY on July 24 2012 [AWB: 003816930098454], WT to Bryston done on July 10 2012.
One month resting at FaxCargo Air & Ocean, 10913 NW 30th Street Suite 107, Miami FL 33172.
I didn't know it would take one month to start its freight, but I would do the same again.
Now I know Miami is really far from Montevideo, Uruguay - one month is worth waiting for my new amp to arrive.

Fernando,
I just saw this post.I do not think FedEx is the best choice for international shipping and it should not stay at cargo that long.
Try this for next time.

Thanks, Prelude  :)

But this issue is not FedEx fault, actually.
Maybe next Monday Sept. 3, FaxCargo will finally receive the order to ship the amp.
FaxCargo didn't receive the instruction to make shipping throughout August ...
It might be arriving at Montevideo airport on September 10.
I hope so.

Fernando.
