Using the RPi4B for room measurements
« on: 18 Aug 2019, 12:37 pm »
Since the new dspNexus system will have an internal RPi4B running Buster for use, decided to get one to try out.  This will work with the dspMusikLCD as it exists, so also applicable to that system.  Have tried it on both the RPi3B+ and RPi4B systems and works correctly.

After loading Java 8, installed Room EQ Wizard latest beta version and everything is working correctly.  Earlier versions of Raspbian had problems with some sample rates for REW.  Buster has corrected that.

Connected the Dayton Audio UMM-6 USB mic to the RPi4B and it is running.  REW shows the mic and could load the mic calibration data.

Only thing left to try is the noise generator with the internal DAC to see if it is working.  USB DAC's externally have already worked.

Now a very small but very accurate way to measure room acoustics.

Here a short video of the RPi4B setup with the Dayton Audio UMM-6 calibrated mic.

Now waiting for the TRRS 3.5mm to RCA cable to use the onboad DAC for measurements.

Also go to audio settings and setup the ALSA mixers for both the DAC and UMM-6 mic so that REW uses them correctly.  If not, the UMM-6 may not show up in REW Beta 20.

Beta 21 was released this morning with a fix.  Downloading it for trial.

The REW beta 21 is working well.

Have the Dayton Audio UMM-6 working.  At this point the system only finds it if booted and then the mic USB connector plugged in.

Got the TRRS to RCA cable to connect the RPi4B DAC to the audio system for testing.

Have update the RPi4 4GB model with REW Beta 24 running on Buster OS.  Using the TRRS to RCA cables and Dayton Audio UMM-6 measurement mic have the system working for measurements.   The internal DAC will run at either 44.1KHz or 48KHz sample rates and produce test signals.

Trying out the Raspberry Pi LED touch screen with the RPi4 to see if will allow use for measurements instead of needing a keyboard and mouse.  Have a 5V@4A power supply to see if it will run both the RPi4 and LED touch screen instead of 2 power supplies as before.  If so, much more portable.
