Bridged 2BLP's
« on: 22 Jan 2024, 01:54 am »
James:
I am running a pair of  2BLP's in mono  to a pair of 91 dB loudspeakers with a BP 4.2 preamp, via RCA connections.
One of the 2BLP's is from 1992. The other is from 1999.
The 1992 unit seems to have quite a bit more hiss that can only be heard when no source music is playing. Other than that, the amplifiers are fine. The 1999 unit is much quieter,by the way.
Any thoughts on what is causing this?
Regards,
Patrick

Hi Patrick

I assume the parts are depreciating but ask Mike - mpickett@bryston.com

I've taken a number of very old units in over the years and they often require just a few parts like resistors or small transistors to be replaced. BTW, in my experience, recapping these results in vastly improved clarity and realism because the dielectric absorption on old electrolytics increases dramatically and that phenomenon is a serious issue in audio applications. It's the best value upgrade that I know of.
