Another kind of sub? Using the M165X

Danny, etc.... how well do you think 8-10 of the M165SX's would do as a subwoofer?  Debating on doing something built into a riser in an upcoming installation.

I think your box size would be huge.

To get the most low end extension out of that woofer you need a ported box that is about 1.6 cubic feet per woofer. Start adding that up.

One unit can get you a -3db in the 39Hz range and a line of them that long will give you about 8Hz more low end extension than a single woofer. That will get you to about 30Hz before adding in any room gain.

Well.. figure the overall riser would be 7-8" tall, 8-9' wide, and about 40" deep.  Sounds like plenty of room for quite a few subs.  Think this would be a good answer vs 2 larger 12" subs in the room, etc?

It would be a very clean and powerful output but may be a little soft in the 20 to 30Hz region. Then again with a little room gain it might be pretty solid to mid 20's.

No doubt about it. It would sound very good.

Have a suggestion on the enclosure?  Single Reflex Bandbass (4th order) would be nice since the subs could be internal with only port firing out of the riser.  Seems it would really limit the output range though.

I wouldn't use them in a band pass, just 1.6 cubic feet ported.
