Anyone have any Passport CD's? I used to have several of  their recordings on vinyl and I was wondering how the sound quality is.

Rick,

I have a couple of the Larry Fast/Synergy re-releases, and a Jan Akkerman album, and I would say the sound quality is only okay, if marginal. The first Synergy one, -the best one, is better, and it sounds pretty good on a non-OS DAC I would have to say.

My brother has a Nektar CD from Passport, 'Remember The Future,' I believe this to be an early CD, and he said the quality really got in the way of the power and the glory of the vinyl one, which has to be heard to be believed, one monstrosity of a band and album.

Hope this helps.

Hi Rick,

Sorry, I've only got vinyl versions of Passport. But the sound on those is pretty fine, and doesn't make me want to get any of them on CD, for sure.

As for Nektar - some of their stuff has recently been re-released on hybrid SACD (Remember the Future and Tab in the Ocean, I believe). The sound should be far better than the standard CD's.

I still have to play my Gong-Expresso album on my own system. I can't forget the presentation on your Linus III's this weekend.

Good show,
Bob

Actually I meant the German band Passport , not the label but this is also good information. The label was owned by JEM which was a major importer of progressive rock on vinyl.

Glad you liked hearing the Gong cut; in fact, you were the first one to identify it in about four years of using it for demo material  :D  My first exposure to the band was back in my college days when they were doing the "Pot Head Pixies"

Hello Rick,
    If you go to
http://www.allmusic.com/ you can type in Passport and see the list of albums that they made. I have a few lp's of theirs...no cd's tho.[/list:u]
Amazon sells a few, new and used. Might check this link ..... looks like three pages of cd's...some imports.....
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/artist/glance/-/73095/ref=pd_ap_sr/002-3320971-4795261 [/list:u]
As for how they sound on cd....check the customer reviews....I have not hear any of the cd's.  [/list:u]
I always found "Colosseum" to be an interesting group, similar to "Passport".[/list:u]

          Late edit....Tower Sale on Passport.....
