Title: Vintage Ludwig Kit- 65 Downbeat Sky Blue Pearl
Post by: TubesGlo on 9 Feb 2022, 10:35 pm

I love vintage drums, 60's Ludwig's being my favorite. I used to buy kits on the cheap, restore them and resell as a hobby and side gig. I'm down to one kit now, my lifer. I picked up this 65 Downbeat kit about 10 years ago. I finally got around to doing a full restoration including new wrap due to peeling, cracking and the overall rough shape of the original finish. Knowing this was my keeper I wasn't concerned with resale value. I built the snare to match using a 14" marching drum and cutting it down to 5 1/2"  then cutting a new bearing edge and snare bed. I love the look, feel and sound of these drums. I don't play out anymore to due a bad arm and hand injury but I enjoy messing around with them right where they are.
Thanks for Looking

Hi there. I’m new here. Just a couple posts so far. Thats a cool looking set. Isn’t the Downbeat model 12, 14 and 20 bd with a piccolo snare?
