NOTE: Yes, this is from the Montreal audio show and I didn't realize that this was a prototype--that explains why I hadn't seen it before!

Nice looking speakers!  Now that I can see them in a real setting, I can see that they are larger than I expected.  How do they sound?

By the way, what stands are you using for them?  They look quite solid!

All,

That is a pic of the prototype Hemptone (from the Spring, 2005 Montreal show).

The new (in production) HempTones can be seen here:
http://www.omegaloudspeakers.com/hemptone%20compact%208.htm

The stands are very solid and made by Sylan: http://www.skylanstands.com/

Regards,

brj

Ah... now I know why it looks a bit different (wider, etc.) from the website!  Thanks!

I thought they looked like Skylan stands, but they appear far shorter than normal.  Are they custom, or is it just the perspective playing tricks on me?

Noel makes 12" (or 16" if you want) stands for these taller Omegas. He can make just about any length you want.

What about the finish shown in the Montreal picture? I like that finish MUCH more than the ones shown on the Omega website.

When does the floor stander come out?

Hi Albee,

Thanks for the pic. I haven’t seen this one before. It’s definitely the prototype that I had in Montreal. These were the first ones I made after the test boxes. I still have the cabinets and they are the old style in Cherry with Walnut chamfered corners. The production version has the new cabinet style with new finishes. The cabinet is better now and a multi layer construction (Ultra light MDF, Baltic Birch, and phenolic). This particular speaker is a wide baffle and very soon the Super Hemp will be out which is a wide baffle, but even bigger.

Hi brj,

Thanks and the speakers on the floor are Super 3s, which will give you some scale. The stands are the very first 13” (with spikes) that Noel made for me. The are fitted with an adjustable threaded rod in front so the tilt back can be adjusted. The benefit in the lower stand is better output in bass and the soundstage opens up more. These are also one of the only Skylan stands that you’ll ever see in silver. The production stands are black and perfectly fitted for the speakers. They are available in both the 2 and 4 post versions.

Hi Bill,

I’m very happy you like the cherry finish. The new finishes are very nice and the pictures on the site don’t do them justice at all. I need to get someone much more handy with the camera than me.

The 1.5 ways are the floorstander and the new Super Hemp is the size of the old Snell J with the volume of the E. Looks like the size right now is 24” H x 15” W x 12” D

Thanks again,
Louis
