Grado G1+ stylus shape?
« on: 12 Sep 2018, 10:30 pm »
Anyone know what stylus shape a Grado G-1+ has? "Special Grado Stylus" is almost as helpful as no info. Anyone know how this holds up to the 8MZ cart and stylus or Grado Gold cart and stylus?

I have a G-1 and a bent 8MZ stylus which I straightened with small needle nose pliers. I had it in a Grado Blue. Thinking of replacing it, but need answers to my questions, as it may not be worth the money if my G-1+ can equal it.

According to the data sheet that came with mine back in '80 it's elliptical. While I'd thought for years it was a Shibata style, further research not long ago revealed it's not exactly, there is a difference. Can't find that info at the moment, but maybe this helps.

Still running mine on my Thorens TD 160 MkII, and it still sounds sweet.

I have a G1 with a Paratrace stylus on it and it sounds lovely.  The benefit of the Prestige line and their predecessors is the interchangeably of their stylus'.  You can upgrade any cartridge with a better stylus and they still make replacements for models long out of production.
