There seems to be a theme for the ECM album covers.  I'm worried the artistic director may be suicidal.

I don't think you have to worry too much, their themes haven't changed that much in close to 40 years, so if it's the same person he's hanging in pretty good.     Or maybe it's just a Bergman mentality.

That's a load off my mind.  Thanks.

Hey Robin, listening to that album, too.  Really good stuff.

I would tentatively throw out Youn Sun Nah - Same Girl.  Simple arrangements, virtuosic voice.  Exotic, may not be everyone's cuppa, but I love it.

Here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ1H9kRI5RM

Give Breakfast in Baghdad and Enter the Sandman a chance.  Just need to have an open mind.

This recomendation sent me to Amazon. I received the CD today and I will say Yuon Sun Nah sings with passion feeling and control. Yes the arrangements are simple but haunting. Slow down and let the her voice enter your soul. Thanks for the recommendation.

You will forgive me if I plug my nephew's album.

A video sample from the Montreal Jazz Festival.  This is a song from the first album.  My nephew is on bass and is the nicest guy in the world.

What is Jazz?...

Quote
The first noticeable thing about Sarah Wilson’s new album Trapeze Project is her band. Ben Goldberg plays the clarinet, Myra Melford plays the piano, and Jerome Harris and Scott Amendola are the rhythm section. If anyone from my hometown wanted to record an album with this band, they would have to commit homicide first. Jazz trumpeter and vocalist Sarah Wilson has assembled some of the best of the best, so it comes as little surprise that she is outshined by the hired help...http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/129876-sarah-wilson-trapeze-project/
More memorable on vocals than her trumpet chops...but the band is alla' dat and a bagga' chips. She has an interesting background.

Speaking of Christian McBride, the tune "Brown Funk" should get your dead butt movin'.  :icon_twisted:
Massively great sound quality. Punch you in the chest kind of bass and percussion.

I like this Branford Marsalis CD better.

There are two "bluesy, jazzy" songs:
- B.B.'s Blues
- Rib Tip Johnson
That together consume twenty minutes total.  :thumb: Excellent "blues/jazz".
Plus, there's a weird little track called "Berta Berta", that will one day end up on some speaker manufactures demo disc. You'd have to hear it to understand.

And.... There's a song callee "Mable" that has John Lee Hooker singing.  8)

This album was made on location on a tour Gil Evans made with his then orchestra in Europe.  The majority of the tracks were captured in '86 with one in '81.  Some of it sounds like it was made with a hand held single point stereo mic from the audience with a bass pick up.  Don't let that stop you.  A mass of well known jazz players from the day are featured and the playlist is stellar.  Pieces like Here Comes De Honey Man, Voodoo Chile, Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, and a don't miss Drizzling Rain.  I own a lot of his recordings.  This one released by his estate in 1999 features magnificient arrangements and magnificient playing.  To me, it is the most deeply felt of all his recordings I own.  I couldn't be without it-

The Gold Collection (Fine Tune).  Very highly recommended for your late night listening.
