New Member Introduction (Thanks for having me!)
« on: 24 Jul 2021, 03:20 pm »
Hello fellow audiophiles, I am a home audio hobbyist.  I build my own speakers for the fun of it.  Professionally, I am a live sound engineer (currently employed as the monitor engineer for the band Slipknot).  My wife wants to know where the new speakers that I'm building are going to go.........These use the BG tweeters with a GR M130 for mids and 2x M165/16 for lows.  They are based on the X Statik.  I am try-amping the first set and using a minidsp so I can experiment with different crossovers but then I will be building a passive version once I figure out the best crossover.  Please excuse the rough wood work as these are prototypes and the woodwork is definitely my weakness in the process.

Welcome Danny,

It's always good to welcome a fellow speaker designer/builder.  Post some pics when you can.
Enjoy the AC!

I tried posting pictures yesterday but they wouldn't upload for some reason.

Here is the prototype 3-way box based on the X-statik.

Here is a picture of a box I built for my living room with two 4" peerless drivers and a Fountek Neo 1 ribbon tweeter.  These boxes are ported and go down to 50Hz (I think my 3db down point is around 55Hz).  They were my first speaker design and build.  They are bi-amped with Parasound Zamp and a miniDSP for processing.  Delaying the tweeter .31milliseconds took all phase problems away at the crossover point (2500Hz).  I currently have them coupled with a Klipsch sub.  I built them because my wife wanted me to build something small so they are only 6" high.
