Hi Photon46 & probably others.
I live on the other side of the earth.
I have never ever heard anyone around me ever use the term 'bad-ass'.
I assume it means something like exciting, impressive, special, extraordinary, spectacular, with a hint of unusual.
But, as I say I am both a foreigner and a culturally different person even though I am an audiophile.
So, if I have got it wrong I apologise.
I did my best in my two posts to contribute to the thread with what I considered to be relevant & interesting posts.
Hope people enjoyed them anyway.
Bruce

Hello BruceSB, Actually I was hoping someone knowledgeable about Rugby & Australian rules football would post some pics of the greats. I know very little about the history of the game but the few games I've watched definitely impressed me as a sport populated with what we Yanks call "badasses."

The one adjective I'd say is missing in your understanding of the term "badass" is someone who is a bit scary and intimidating to other athletes. Mike Tyson in boxing, Chiyonofuji and Hakuho in Sumo, & Serena Williams in tennis all come to mind as athletes who could make other competitors gulp in fear at the thought of facing them when they were at the height of their powers.

Yes, and/or someone who overcame tremendous adversity or some monumental hurdle or obstacle to achieve greatness in their particular sport. Someone, who despite all odds being against them, never gave up and continued to do or be the best they could at what they did. Someone who has been to hell and back and just smiled and kept coming.
You know.....a bad ass!! :thumb:

Thanks for the information guys.
Here in Australia the two northern states are the rugby ones.
The southern states have been traditionally AFL.
Being in Melbourne I only know AFL.
If anyone is interested in dipping a toe into AFL I suggest the two 1977 Grand Finals.
The two teams played to a draw and returned again the next week to decide a winner.
Classic AFL.
Great players and lots of tension - think there may even be some bad-ass!!
It is a fair while ago but you get to see something very unusual.
Try to pretend that you don't know the result of the first Grand Final.
Remember watching them both live at Melbourne Uni's Ridely College common room.
Good memories!
I am sure that they are easily available somewhere on the internet.
Enjoy
Bruce

It's not automatic anymore!  Back with the first "Dream Team" the world stood in awe watching as the USA men's team dominated a scene where there was no quality opposition, it was basically an exhibition.  But you have to admit that the world is catching up, and some of the greatest players in the world are now born outside of the USA.  Team USA had to dig deep down and fight, making this medal all the more special.

^^ If we're going to the Olympics, then it's all about Gable Stevenson.
