801 Crossover Fix by Van Alstine
« on: 19 Sep 2022, 12:24 am »
Hi..

in another forum I read a post by Frank Alstine about the 801 S2 matrix crossovers and how to improve them.
He had offered to send the PDF via email if asked.

Unfortunately his email does not work, I always get the message Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender, which is why I wanted to ask here...

Maybe someone has the PDF, or with a bit of luck, Frank Van Alstine reads it...

Thanks a lot :)

Why not just send Frank a letter with a $10 ( for postage  ) explaining you situation and have him Copy and Mail it to you...I am sure he would be happy to help........

IIRC it was included in an issue of his Audio Basics newsletter which is available for download from AVA website.

The problem afflicted only the Series II as you mention and was caused by a crossover board layout error that resulted in crosstalk between the drivers.

If you can't find it there, give AVA a call.  Frank is notorious for being very helpful to anyone who calls him up.

I believe that information is in the Audio Basic news letters from Frank's website. You can down load the entire collection here:

Not sure how important it might be to you but I had the 801 series 2 for quite awhile and found just eliminating the castors and installing the Spikes and also removing the Bass Alignment filter was quite a big jump in performance. The Factory Bass Alignment filter was terrible ( in my opinion ) ...Good luck with your Upgrade and hope it works out.......

It is curious that while we offer, free of charge, a completely engineered diagnosis and fix for B&W's crossover design blunder, others here at AC just suggest better sounding parts.

Oh well.
