X-LS Encore build. First DIY speaker I ever built and pretty much the only wood work I've ever done.

Haven't built the grills yet, still hunting for a fabric I like the look of.

I really like Danny's voicing of the speakers, so much that I’m midway thru building the SLS tower model now. The option of having the port forward facing solves a right channel placement problem I have.

Dude your sub looks awesome! Great work! I think I may use a grey gel stain next time as well. My home's interior is grey with white trim. The wife is very particular about the colors of stuff going into the living room.

I finished my servo sub build and the results are below.  I used ash for the veneer and a grey gel stain and an oil and wax clear top coat.  I didn't expect the effect to be so stripy, but it turned out ok.

MMMM magnets. Great way to go. Peter and CaptNemo should offer the holes for magnetic grilles.

After a few delays these X-SLS are ready.

Quarter sawn mahogany veneer over a GR mdf flat pack, wipe on satin poly final finish.

Very nice!
How did you achieve those big round overs when the wood was just 3/32".
What adhesive did you use to lay up the veneer?
Thanks.

My first DIY "audiophile" speaker project.  I had, as a kid, made some speaker boxes for our cars but nothing like the cabinets I built for my X-LS Encore speakers.

I got the speaker Kit from GR-Research and sourced the wood locally for the cabinets.

Construction is birch plywood (Not a fan of working with MDF) with quarter sawn Cherry veneer.  My first attempt at using veneer.  Thank to Peter's YouTube video on the subject it went without issue.  Finished with Rubio Monocoat (Finishing on ez-mode!)

Just need to let the finish cure then I can install the crossovers and the speakers..  Can't wait!

Phil

Made some minis. First diy. Would of liked a little fancier veneer than the beech, but it matched best.

Hello fellow GR fans, first post here. Been messing with speaker since I was 8. This however is my first GR kit.

Asked for the desktop mini kit for Christmas from the wife and started shortly after.

Here are pics of my progress.

Next steps will be a nice coat is shellac to a satin finish and final assembly. It’s taken me longer than I wanted but I’m a perfectionist so I’ve stopped quite a few times to correct things or redo them. I am thrilled with the look so far.
