If you listen to Hard Rock or Heavy Metal music you know that Riffs are what make or break songs. You're probably familiar with great Riff makers like Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin or Toni Iommi of Black Sabbath, but there are many more other catchy Riffs.

I'll start 'er off with Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet.

You can't have a "Famous All-Time Riff" list without Slayer - Raining Blood. That entire song is iconic, but that starting riff is absolutely legendary.

Ok, not sure it qualifies as a "riff", but have always considered it an iconic piece -  Lou Reed: Rock 'n Roll Animal's Intro to Sweet Jane. Written & performed by Steve Hunter.

Maybe it’s considered an Intro, but one of my fav’s. I’d add John Cougar’s I Need a Lover to the great intro list.

Riff of the Day, or..when a song is closed to an Anthem...
Iotunn - Mistland , taken from "kinship", the still quite new album from Iotunn. It's kinda a masterpiece in its genre:)

Hi deanorth

Iotunn's "Kinship" is a masterpiece for sure, their first album "Access All Worlds" is also solid slab of progressive melodic death metal.
Also, if you like Jón Aldará's operatic vocals, his vocals shine on 2 excellent albums by Barren Earth, "On Lonely Towers" from 2015 and "A Complex Of Cages" from 2018.

Call me simple but I can't get over how good the riff is in this version of Break in the Wall, from the 3:20 mark to 4:32. The dual guitars and how Miyako finishes the riff. I have to play it like 3 times in a row to get my fix.

I'm really becoming a fan of Japanese girl metal. At this point though I find vocals to be annoying in that I want less of it. I just want to hear them play their guitars and the riffs. :inlove:

It would be remiss to fail to mention this Japanese Girl Band, East of Eden. Myself I only found a couple of their songs that appeal to me so far. Evolve however is on my Playlist, perhaps you'll like it too!
