Hi Cactus Bob,

I saw that you posted Concierto tonight....thought I'd share a story:

About 20 years ago I took a taxi home from JFK in NYC and got stuck in traffic with a Russian cab driver. Somehow the conversation turned to tube amplifiers (he built his own, as did my father), which eventually led to a discussion about music. As a driver he would routinely put in 14-15 hour days for 6 and sometimes 7 days a week (gruelling), but every night, no matter how late he arrived, he would come home and listen to one complete record. He said that it "kept him sane," and helped him to remember about beauty in the world.

Intrigued, I decided to try this routine for myself...as a jazz neophyte (at the time) I asked for recommendations about where to start. His suggestion? Concierto.

It's still one of my favorite albums. Amazing beginning to end. Thanks for sharing!

Inspired by reading your story I switched to Jim Hall  - Concierto dropping Bill Evans. Listening it after a long while.
That's a inspiring story, thanks a lot for sharing.

Awesome, Asimov...glad it had resonance for you. I'm always amazed what sharing something personal can do...I learn so much from the folks on this group everyday. Just glad I could give a little something back.

Kenny Dorham on JVC XRCD.  This is one of those where the XRCD version is worth the extra few bucks. Dynamic and clean.
