Audio Advisor Speaker Stand Choice
« on: 28 Nov 2019, 02:19 pm »
Looking for stands for a pair of Hsu Research HB1-MkIIs. Thoughts on one of these. Is it worth the $30 upgrade? 24" height? Will the three tube stand be more rigid than a single tube stand?

Get the 20 inch stands and if you want to make it higher put an isoacoustics stand sandwiched between the speaker stand and the speaker. Better SQ and you have more flexibility as to height, tilt, etc.

The steel stands sold by Monoprice are an excellent value, sturdy and very well made. It's a good idea to have heavy solid stands for best sound quality.Their prices are very reasonable,so check them out before deciding.

At Audio Advisor, I would go for the Pangea Audio DS400 Heavy Duty Speaker Stands if they are in your price range.

Check out TimberNation.com.  They have several different styles and the exact dimensions can be customized.  Prices are quite reasonable if you shop carefully.  Different finishes can also be picked although have had problems with the satin black.  I ordered hollow pedestal stands that matched the width/depth of my monitors.  The stands weighed 25 pounds and held another 50 pounds each of sand.  Looked very professional along with the matching rack.  Recommend being patient (it's a small shop and he can't always answer the phone) and know that orders are primarily taken over the phone so keep the instructions simple.  But so much better than prefabricated flimsy metal stands.

Those designs look very diy friendly.  And the prices, while higher than AA, are still very low relative to some audio bling products.  I have a bunch of leftover lumber from a remodeling project I may put to good use stealing some of his designs.

I, too, would suggest the stands from Monoprice.  If I didn't already own Osiris stands, I would opt for these:

These stands are the exact stands my son chose to buy for his new system. The vertical pieces can be filled with sand, BBs, Kitty litter, etc. They're easy to assemble and they're made in Taiwan.

The Monoprice stands are very interesting. One reviewer says it may be the same as the $200 Audio Advisor stand.

The spec says it's constructed of Steel and MDF Composite Wood. Does anyone know what piece of it is MDF?

The flat bottom plate is mdf.  I’m 99% sure.

The Monoprice stands that my son received have metal (steel?) top and bottom plates. I assembled one; my son assembled the other. There was no MDF. Perhaps, they originally used MDF, but changed to steel? Dunno.
