Title: Full-Range Driver Design
Post by: Rick Craig on 26 Jun 2017, 04:01 pm
Last summer I built a small desktop using 2.5" drivers in a CBT array. My prior experiences with full-range drivers were not very positive, especially one driver from Japan that I evaluated for a customer. That particular unit had a small cult following and was expensive but the performance was awful. The 2.5" drivers were very good but limited in bass extension.

The larger full-range drivers are compromised and have tradeoffs that to me are not acceptable. Here's a new concentric design that performs far better and is a great alternative. Much wider bandwidth and dispersion as well as smoother tonality. Concentrica  :thumb:

Good looking driver. Congrats on the new design Rick

How close is the driver to being time aligned at xo freq?

There's a good null when the tweeter's phase is reversed - great coherence.

How would these compare & contrast with your previous MF (improved/Loki) coincident speaker?
Have you heard the new'ish SEAS Coax driver?C18EN001/M, coax driver.

It's difficult to compare without side-by-side listening but the SB driver offers better value and allows me to price the speaker for affordability. I've not heard the new Seas midrange/tweeter combo. I see it as more of a niche product with stiff competition from mid/tweeter combinations that are similar or lower in cost.
