Adjusting output of Z1 regs?
« on: 18 Nov 2013, 04:26 pm »
Hi Paul -

I've had some of the Z1 regs on hand (intended for an earlier version of the TP Buffalo dac) for a while, and now finally wish to use them on a Buffalo BIIIse dac and I/V stage.  The +15v and -15v will be used as you delivered them.

The other reg, however, is a Z1A set for 3.3v, with the 1w resistor having a value of 4R7.  The dac has power requirements of 5.25v at 440ma.  Can you suggest changes to the Z1A to change to a 5.25v reg, and to accomodate the specified current draw?

Thanks in advance - Pat

Hi Pat

To change the voltage to close to 5v25 change the resistor R3 to the left of the 8 pin chip on the drawing to 1K07.

To change the current limit change the 4R7 1W resistor to 2R7 to give .463A and this should also allow enough current for the circuit to operate. The heatsinks will get hot but should run at a safe temperature. If you want more current than this then you really should be using the SR1M-05v25 as this can be set for currents up to 3 amps provided the module is fitted to a suitable heatsink.

Paul

Thanks, Paul.  I'll give this a shot, and if it gets uncomfortably warm I'll upgrade. - Pat
