Anyone here using the Pass Labs amplifiers (X series) to drive their VMPS's? How do you like em?

I'm looking for a solid state amp of very good quality (the 626 with TRT and FST are very very revealing, so no grainy amps!).

i haven't heard the pas amps, so i cannot comment, other than to say the heresay evidence is that they are excellent grain-free amps.   but, i know from 1st-hand experience that electrocompaniet amps are also completely free of grain, and are able to drive most any speaker load.  detailed, dynamic, & great soundstaging.  while i presently prefer using a tubed amp, i saved my ec amps, & they now do a great job of driving my vmps larger subs...

depending on budget, i'd recommend any of these:

Hello Enrico,
Pass Labs seems to play very nicely with most VMPS speakers. For the 626Rs, the X150 or X250 should do very nicely. If you ever plan to drive RM40s without bi-amping, then the X350 would be a better choice.

If you want zero grain, the Ampzilla 2000 monoblocs are also an excellent choice. However, using a $5500 amp on $3200 speakers is not justifiable for many folks. I am still waiting for my Son of Ampzilla ($3500) but every indication is that it should be the perfect mate for a tricked-out 626R. At 80 high current watts per channel, it should have no problems taking charge of the speakers.

I have also used Marsh amps with my 626Rs with very good results. In some ways, I actually prefered the Marsh with my stock (no upgrade) 626Rs. The Marsh was slightly more forward while the Ampzilla was more toward neutral.

Enrico, are you aware of this post for a Pass X350, RM40, plus over $1k worth of cable, and free shipping, all for only $7000.

This seems like a really good deal.

I switched from a bat vk500 to a pass x250 to drive my rm40's w trt and fst and it sounds fantastic. It was a huge improvement going to the pass.
I also called pass and they thought that the x250 would be a better match than the x350 as it would have better controll of the bass as it has more negative feedback. It plays as loud as my ears can take it and is very liquid.

Thanks all for your answers. I was not aware of Electrocompaniet but they are now on my list (along with Pass). Interesting to hear of the better bass control of the X250 versus the X350.

audiojerry, I am aware of the package deal, but the RM40s are simply too huge for me right now. The RM30...well, that's another story....
