OPPO BDP-93NE, 93NXE, 95NXE and 83NXE
« on: 30 Dec 2010, 07:50 am »
This topic is used for all things Nuforce Edition for OPPO models.
You guys are in for a SHOCK beyond belief what we have accomplished.

OPPO BDP-93 Nuforce Edition is done and in production. We will demo it at CES 2011. Come and hear how this player rival a $10,000 CD player sound quality. We designed the audio board from the ground up, not modified from OPPO board.

There will be several versions:
BDP-93NE, 93 Nuforce Xtreme Edition (NXE) and 95 NXE.
We didn't leave out the 83 customers. A special 83NXE upgrade board will be available for 83 customers at a much lower price.

This is an early announcement and final plan could change as we are still working on NXE.
We will post technical descriptions in the next few days.

It looks like the 95 is fundamentally different from the other models.  Would mods to that be of the same nature?  Seems like there might be less to do...

Jason, really nice to hear...... :D
83NXE is really interesting news, will there be a huge audio/video difference comparing to 95NXE?

Wow, the 95NXE is 1.5 times the cost of the base 95 itself.  Not saying that's a bad thing and I guess the proof will be in the listening!

Jason or Casey,

Any info about the 95 NXE? Now that Oppo has released the 95 for early release, I am trying to decide between the oppo 95 and the NXE. Is there any real info what you guys are doing to the NXE version?

At $2495, 2.5 X the cost of the BDP-95 !

Indeed, the gap with the 93NXE appears to be a bit too large for a device that many people will probably consider their last "legacy" disc spinner.

As far as I am concerned, 95% of my listening is now streamed music, I am seriously considering selling my beloved Esoteric SACD player and will probably replace it by a universal player but will probably not pay more than 1500-2000 US$. I have to say that the 93NXE appears to occupy a much sweeter spot in the lineup.

I don't really see any company, not even 2L, releasing new audio Blue ray without a downloadable flac version and high res film download is only one year away.

But anyway, the BOM is obviously long frozen, the business model defined so there is probably little room for play in terms of final prices.

cheers,
Bernard

Hi,

Kinda new here.
I saw this upgrade for BDP-93 to BDP-93NE from NuForce.
I have an AV system of which accepts only HDMI audio/video input - with no Analog input - it's a soundbar actually - from Yamaha YSP-5100.
I'm wondering whether this upgrade is worthwhile to get either the player or the upgrade board only (as I have yet to get the player ), and furthermore if to get the upgrade board only, can it be done DIY without any experience whatsoever (I mean soldering)?

Thanks alot.

In regards to audio, I am not sure how much your system will benefit from the upgraded version.

However regarding your question, it won't require soldering, it will be a matter of unscrewing the board and unplugging/plugging in a ribbon cable

"As replacement for standard OPPO analog board, the NuForce analog board for the Oppo BDP-93 3D Blu-ray players have been redesigned from the ground up for improved performance parameters. The analog board (this is the board that has the DAC and produces 7.1 analog outputs) can be replaced easily using a screw driver."

Wow - that's a nice feature to be able to upgrade so easily,  I have the BDP-93 in the secondary bedroom system that doesn't see tons of use but if and when I upgrade the main system in a bit and rotate players between the secondary bedroom and basement systems that is something I'd really consider.

Does anybody know if the xtreme board will also be easy to slot into the 95 and fitted by the end user, or will it be something that has to be done by Nuforce?

Thanks.

"DIY customers can purchase NuForce Edition analog boards separately to upgrade to NuForce Edition BDP-93NE, BDP-93NXE and BDP95NXE players." Please tell me the $1500 upcharge for the NXE over the stock 95 morethan just a new analog board.

Ok Thanks! I'll stick to the 83SE (still available on ebay) or a 93 NXE (both similarly priced)

I want this for 7.1 analog audio. To be used mainly as a SACD and DVD-A transport....Blu Ray is a bonus

So anyone done a comparison 83SE (with the better Saber DAC etc), or 93NXE (with the older cirrus DAC, but better Nuforce board/ lower jitter etc..)

Thanks!

Got message from Jason that due to low interest of 83NXE it has been taken away from homepage.
There will perhaps open a pre-order queue to really catch those who are interested.  :?
I'm hoping that it will be done and that you out there having 83NU today are interested to update your player ta latest analog audio.
Since I'm running my 83SE/NU towards DVDO EDGE when it comes to video and analog multichannel out from Oppo towards Lexicon processor I can take advantage of latest audio formats and the very best in video scaling, its not much of interest to update to 95 platform.

Sorry, I have disappeared from audiocircle for a long time, way too busy these days. I will try to get Bob Smith to check in more often.

BDP-93NE - for USA customers, we offer FREE shipping and 30 day money back guarantee. I am certain that if you have the standard 93, after hearing the upgrade board, you won't want to return it. For the price of a few family dinners, you get to enjoy a player that sounded as good as many CDP costing > $5000.  Someone compare BDP-93NE with a $15,000 Meridian system and commented that they are so close in performance.

BDP-93NXE - essentially the same design as 93NE, but with re-clocking of all the digital signals for better performance. This is not easy to design, so it cost twice the price of BDP-93NE.

If you want a top quality BDP (93 and 95 has the same video board), and truly world class CDP or DAC (if you use HD for music), go with BDP-93NXE.  We are waiting for firmware from OPPO to release 93NE.

BDP-95NXE - this is the ultimate audio player. We will be implementing using multiple high-end DAC chips (we like the sound better than ESS DAC on the standard 95) with re-clocking. This is a non trivial design.  Yes, it cost 2.5 times BDP-95, but if it is going to deliver performance equal to some of the best players on the market.
We piggy back on the mass production of OPPO to deliver super high-end performance at entry level price.  If we try to make such a machine alone, the volume will be so low that to recoup R&D cost, each unit has to be priced in the 5 figure price range.  But now we only have to worry about the R&D cost of the analog board.
