NCores with only 50W for active loudspeakers
« on: 9 Feb 2014, 07:39 pm »
Active loudspeakers demand often low power if SPL comes with 90dB/W or better. The power of NCore NC400 will be demanded only for  woofers. Mids and tweeters are contented with 15..50W. It would be brilliant for the NCore product line if it will be added by a NC50 with 50W which should be more beneficial for the cost of a 4-way active system.

Is such a new NC50 coming in near future?

There was talk of a lower powered NCore a year ago.  No idea what the status is.

I bet cost wouldn't decrease very much for a lower-power module.  Some, but not a lot.  The efficiency of Class D means you get more watts for the variable costs in the electronics, making the more easily scalable.  But the fixed costs don't change depending on size of module and some of the variable costs aren't affected very much by the amount of power output.  I bet the costs that scale linearly with wattage output are pretty minimal.
