The Klipsch Gate and the Powergate Meet Alexa
« on: 5 Mar 2019, 12:38 pm »
I wanted to start a new thread about Alexa rather than make duplicate posts in the Gate/Powergate threads because the Alexa skill applies to both as well as many other products in the DTS Play-Fi ecosystem. I have been very pleased streaming audio throughout the house using 3 gates so far and one Powergate and managing the app with a Kindle Fire HD. The kindle has alexa installed so I thought, why not fire it up? I am NOT a geek by any means. I just opened the Play-Fi app, opened settings, found Alexa services and followed the setup instructions. Enable found my Play_fi devices and enabled them (hint, you MUST update the Gate firmware with the utility app BEFORE you enable Alexa).
OK, next you add your music services and there were many. I added Tidal and Pandora. TuneIn is also included FREE by default for you TuneIn fans. Then it was off to the races. "Alexa play the Motown playlist from Tidal in the media room".
"Alexa play (insert station) in the kitchen (it will find it on tunein automatically). "Alexa play Frank Sinatra station from pandora in the office). It is ridiculously easy.

You can also upload your music files from your server to amazon music (250 files free) and then just play anything you want by asking. IDK if it works with DSD or hirez files but no biggie.

If you have a Play-Fi device and alexa I encourage you to try. Here is more info:
