I have a soft spot in my heart for the dark dreamscapes painted by the early post-Syd era Floyd.Wow PF is the best ever, always impressive see Mason on drums.

An Hour With Pink Floyd never saw an official release, and I think it was only broadcast twice by PBS, in 1973 and 1982.
For many years I thought this performance happened on the afternoon of 4/29/70, before the evening show at the Fillmore West, but it seems now they filmed this show at the original Fillmore (owned by Bill Graham then) on the following day, 4/30/70. Supposedly a U-Matic TV station master surfaced recently as the best audio source, but I still have yet to hear it.
When I want a breath of fresh air, I like the videos of the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, especially those of their concert in Garni in 2004.Brilhant Komitas arrangement, and say that he died insane.
Here's Strauss's Pizzicato Polka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkICcxirBo
I particularly like the Armenian music they played in this concert, though. Here are a couple of pieces.

I was beginning to become uncomfortable with the fellows holding each others "love handles" and dancing.Yes, it was a little strange, but I think it might be some kind of wrestling style - seems to me I've seen something similar in Sumo wrestling where they grab each others belts (which is what they are doing here, isn't it?). Anyway it is weird and I'm not sure I understand the artistic intention.

Mr Georgopoulos, you posted this only 17 days ago (post #315 Dec 21st.)
I bit my tongue the first time but your posting this twice makes me feel justified in saying this:
To me this represents some sort of low point in our musical history. See the lead singer forget the lyrics at 4:32, reads them off the floor from 4:33 to 4:35, blowing the lip sync. The keyboardists lazily smacking the keys more or less in the direction of the right notes. The lame small pillars of smoke at regular intervals, reminiscent of Spinal Tap in their disco phase.
Not impressed. I suppose that it's possible even disco can be good. This is not—but, hey, that's just my opinion.
George, either we live in utterly different musical worlds or you have an incredible sense of humor.I'm with Russell in wondering if George is serious or not.
I wish it were the latter.
If I can be forgiven for being redundant, I'd like to add a proper Omnia link (the other was just Steve and Jenny). Here's a poem by Edgar Allan Poe, 'The Raven', performed by the band. Hey, this one is in English. :wink:I have see it before:

How much influence would you say Gabriel had on Fish...or Genesis had on Marillion? There are quite for shure, but I avoid these new bands due its keyboards sound is poor by the digital instruments they use as in this link above.

Nice trombone, its a 24/44Khz?No, it's an ordinary low-resolution mp3 taken from a 16/44 CD. The recording was made in 1996 on a Tascam DA38 at 16/44. Mixing was on an analog board and editing was done on Sonic Solutions at 24/44. From a 2-CD set called Songs and Arias.
The Lindberg I posted are 16/44.

Staying in the Nordic vein, here's a group from FInland recorded by Bruce Swedien of Michael Jackson 'Thriller' fame. Gjallarhorn.
Thanks. I liked that so much that I ordered a couple of their CDs.I hope Rimfaxe 2006 was one of them. That was the one mixed (not recorded, as I said above) by Bruce Swedien. The recording engineer (and maker of some of the microphones used) was Martin Kantola who still is active making microphones, including the only microphone that has Bruce Swedien's signature on each owner's certificate. Bruce thinks they are fabulous. http://www.gjallarhorn.com/technical.html

Btw: I have found this super nice female voice with solo bass performance. It's OUTSTANDING and its one of the best one I have heard in a long time and I cant stop listening to it. Not only is the sound quality great, the video recording is good too which is often hard to find for live performances. The only thing is that is political pie throwing season in the US at the moment and this is of all things a whitehouse.gov. aired concert. So in order to not send this thread to the quarantine I want to remind you all about the no politics comments policy on Audio Circle plus you have to search for it yourself: "Esperanza Spalding white house poetry jam part 5". Been holding onto this one for a while but it's too good not to share. If you look around, there are actually a lot of good performances aired from the whitehouse (search PBS website or youtube). Ok remember no comments about politics.
Reminds me of one of the Delta Ray songs, I think? :scratch:Found it.

I thought that was pretty amazing. Talk about crossover between cultures!
In checking out the movie I came across this version which has quite a different mix and is a few seconds longer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YV9GaWwfDY
Russell,
I think I have this right ... the 'band' is Oreka Tx, two Basque guys who play a txalaparta, a giant marimba-like instrument intended to be played by two people at once. The documentary film is Nomadix Tx. Oreka Tx traveled to different countries to build a txalaparta with local materials and then play along with local folk musicians including a Sami singer joiking, Mongolian throat singers, sitar players and Arab ladies trilling ... all driven along by the beat of the txalaparta. The film also shows them galloping through Mongolia on their ponies in a snowstorm and jamming in Timbuctoo, two things, I think it's safe to say, I'll never get a chance to do. Alas.
Lester
I think you have it right. The Basques are an interesting culture indeed, in many ways.We had dinner with my brother-in-law and his wife tonight; his volunteer job is being the adult manager of a college station where he continues to do his long lived world music program. Anyway he knows all about them, has seen them perform live and has the full documentary which I hope to see this week. He says it's truly spectacular. I'll report back.

If we wind the clock back one more year to 1973, Genesis released 'Selling England by the Pound' and thereon lies 'Firth of Fifth'. It may not be terribly flashy, but the guitar solo in that song has soul - another all-time favorite of mine. In fact, I find this solo by Steve Hackett incredibly moving.Great solo and bass line.

By the way, I also adore that Fernandez guitar - sustain for days.
Nice studio, wobble camera.
Bestimmt! Ah, well, to each his/her own. If you listen carefully to her voice in the song linked below, you will hear subtle vibrato. This is 'My Mother' from her eponymous, first album. Perhaps, it's just my heritage - recently learned that my Irish grandfather actually descended from the Viking invaders - not properly Irish, after all. Anyway, I'd much rather listen to Eivør sing in her native tongue (Faroese).I dig that one! :thumb:

No worries about "going on about her". There are many gals I could go on about. Something about that female voice, when you hear one that strikes your fancy, it really does something to a fellow. Here is a singer that I think is fantastic. Her voice is pretty good too.
It's when you go on and on and on about a dude is when I start forming opinions.
Oh yea, her voice is pure gold to me. Love that.Just the way she handles a mic stand should be "X" rated... or it could just be my distinctly twisted mind.
That little raspy thing she does.... oh....
The fact she's so easy on the eyes too.

Speaking of German guitarists, I saw this 'kid' at a Greg Lake (then a Jethro Tull) concert over a decade ago. I had not heard of him at the time, but immediately wanted to hear more from Florian Opahle. Europhonics was quite a strong debut, in my opinion.

The nice thing about being adults, is that we aren't boxed in and constrained with words like "favorite".
Our minds are open enough that we can just enjoy the music and not be troubled with "which is better, SRV or Clapton", or "what's your favorite color", or "Who's your favorite drummer"?
No. They're all great, that's why I listen to them.
Just like the two Santana songs you linked, they're fantastic. There's no room in my life for spending the time to "figure out" which one is my "favorite".
Rock on Brother.

Thanks. I can't believe that I had never seen the video for 'The Final Cut' before. It might not be my favorite album, especially because it was the album that finally split the band in two, but there were songs on it (like this one (and 'Two Suns in the Sunset' (and...))) that I thought were absolutely brilliant. Even after well over a decade since last listening to it, all the words were fresh in my head. I think I'll have to give the album a spin, now. There's an odd beauty in its darkness and Roger's voice was at its peak. Neither he, nor David, can really sing all that well, anymore - aging is a bitch. At least, they are both still on the right side of the dirt, and creative. The Final Cut 24mins full video is very great and was posted in YT but the YT staff even make us the favor of remove it.
One doesn't need to speak the language to be moved by this Russian folk song, "Under a Willow" (a conversation a dying, young cossack has with a raven that cawed from the canopy of a willow with intent to eat his flesh (cheerful, eh?)).

I don't want background dancers, flashy costumes and lights. Just great music. This song by Tom has the lyrics and rhyme so exotic and refined that still today is innovative and a refined diamond.
I don't think it gets better than this.

You know you've made your mark on the music world when this happens.... twenty five years after you die.Wow fantastic, great moment, Queen was miles ahead from the Green Day silly hardcore ''music''.

From the comments:Indeed. Most of the comments hit the nail on the head.
"Only Queen could rock an entire stadium without even being there."
But I'll bet dollars to doughnuts no one will ever be found to take Freddie's place (even if Queen were still touring).Freddie is so iconic, that I doubt his fans would allow or admit he's been "replaced".
I finally got a Blu-ray copy of "Porcupine Tree: Anesthetize", audio quality is outstanding. Highly recommend this to anyone who is a Porcupine Tree fan, if you can find one.
Fascinating! :oSlowed music are calling my attention lately, the best case so far are the Tangerine Dream masterpiece Phaedra slowed 50%, much more enjoyable than the regular version since this piece run various changes faster than the Ambient music standard currently used:

He's got a couple videos that are "honest" to old school Pink Floyd, but when he veers off track, I'm quick to leave. :|
I love his voice, and the sound quality (for Youtube) is great, but, it's hard to like a person that hates you so much.

Speaking of kicking ass, imagine playing all of the guitars, basses, keyboards and drums, recording, mixing and mastering the audio, as well as filming and editing the video. As if that weren't enough, he did it all in service of creating stellar tributes to three of the greatest prog rock bands - RUSH, Genesis and Yes.
