I remember talking to an owner of an audio store years ago who said he gave up on it for the reasons mentioned above - it's so loud that can't tell if there's anything that sounds good. Almost everything is displayed in little partitioned areas in massive convention centers. Everybody is vying for attention, and they do this with volume.

T.H.E. Show came into being as a result of so many in the Audio business looking for an alternative.

I wouldn't mind going to that, but the crowds there for CES (and the other major convention) drive the prices up and it's tough to get around.

Thank you for those kind words mjosef. I REALLY wish I was able to make it but the notice was so short, I couldn't make things work between mine and my wife's schedule.

Bill, as per our discussion I shot a few pics of the room but they are on my crack berry and I won't be able to download till I get home.

The room sounded very good.  I'm not a huge King fan but the speakers sounded as good as I've heard them.  I think the Purity/Carver higher powered tube amp combo works very well....once you put the tubes in the pre..  :)

CES is a trade show... it's *supposed* to be for dealers and distributors only to meet with manufacturers and establish new relationships or catch up on existing relationships and talk about what's coming...... the only reason consumers should be there is if they made up a company to get a pass or got a pass from an industry person to be a guest or attend on the sly.  They were supposedly clamping down on the non-industry attendees so it would be about potential dealers and distributors only... no idea if they did or not...

RMAF and the like were designed to be more consumer show... it still allows manufacturers to meet with potential dealers and distributors, but also to allow the average consumer to see some of the stuff as well and interface with these products and personalities...

Could not agree more. Well said. RMAF and the Washington Audiofest are better suited for the Audiophile.

Not acceptable. I want them now
Just kidding Ted. Below is a quick cell phone shot of the main system rack during their setup

Thanks for that Ted. All the feedback we are getting on the system from the press, dealers and distributors is phenominal.

Thanks!  Yes, Robert (Carver's partner) told me the funny story of how he couldn't get sound until you reminded him that the pre needs tubes.

Bob F. (Carver) and Roger (King Sound) are good people. It was simply a matter of them thinking the tubes were already installed. I'm glad they were able to chuckle about it.
Those that have been involved with shows know how hectic things can get trying to get set up in a limited time frame.

Looks like a string of press releases.  Some of the rooms I saw displayed different gear than what's in your report.  Maybe you covered the event remotely this year?

Yes, covered it remotely due to a family celebration i had to attend. Love all you guys (and gals) in the industry and enjoy many shows (over 100 to date!) seeing all of you, yet family comes first and all that. Am hoping to get a few reports from the guys in the coming days, yet as you can see there is A LOT of information with many new products shown during CES/THE Show right now on Enjoy the Music.com.

Look forward to seeing many of you at the Munich and Southern CA events plus later this year a few other 'new' shows and revisiting some 'older' ones too. Looks to be a VERY BUSY year travelling to many high-end audio shows during 2012.

I'm sure we'll run into you throughout some of the 2012 shows. We will be attending quite a few shows this year with other major manufactures.

Looking forward to your continuing coverage of CES as more coverage gets posted.

Hugemongous Show Report - CES 2012 and THE Show 2012
« Reply #33 on: 17 Jan 2012, 06:13 pm »
I thought this year's CES / THE shows were quite good - with lots of gear representing all sides and aspects of the hobby. Just don't get anyone started on the topic of the new Audiogon and all was quite upbeat :-)

We are posting one post per room, with about 10-20 photos each. We will also, later, put the large-size photos in a modern gallery viewer, with an index even :-), for that rich, audio porn experience many of us crave [but rarely admit to :-)].

Very nice ... thanks

Occam

I'm pleased as punch that The Absolute Sound's Robert Harley and Johnathan Valin both chose the system presented by Wes Bender Studio NYC
( wesbenderstudionyc.com ) as among their top 5 systems at CES 2012

The system included Hansen Prince E speakers, Redpoint Audio turntable, Wavestream Kinetics phono stage, Dynavector cartridge, Lindeman CD player/dac, Macbook running PureMusic, Viola preamp, Viola monoblocks, Jorma signal cables, and hidden behind the rack Kaplan Cable powercords and Alchemist power conditioner powering everything.

Big congrats to Wes...Paul, great seeing you at CES...Keep up the good work!

Nice jobs guys  :thumb:

The system back at RMAF sounded quite nice too  :green:

Yeah, I would also rate the room in the top three or four amongst the rooms I heard (I probably only heard half of the rooms at the Venetian, and most of the rooms at The Show).
Sound was clean, tight arze bass, snap to give you whiplash,  great 'flow' to get the legs tapping...
Congrats to the room participants.
