"Adequate" bitrate for ipod
« on: 27 Jul 2009, 05:08 pm »
Hi,

I have about 500g of music in lossless that I stream around the house for casual listening.  This works great.  I also have most of this collection on another computer in MP3 (at 192) that I put on flash drives for the car.

Just acquired a new 120g ipod classic and it takes forever to load the lossless files.  The ipod is for the car and for around the pool and occasional headphone listening.  Is 192 bitrate good enough for this?

Thoughts or other suggestions?

Thanks!

192k will be fine for what you intend; headphone listening will be the only medium where you'll notice a big difference (assuming good headphone rig).  I'd just throw my favorites on there in 320k variable, or lossless, and leave everything else 192k.  You can do that on a need-to-hear basis too (assuming you put some lossless faves from one computer over to the other one that will have iTunes/ipod access).
