Hi Levi,

Yes - the temperature is normal - you have placed the gauge over the heatsink in the SP1.7- you will notice that the temperature decreases quickly as you move to the right of that particular spot.

Levi,

At one time, I had next to no air space between the top of the SP 1.7 and the top shelf.  After a 2 hr movie, the lack of ventilation would make the volume button untouchable to most.  I learned my lesson and dropped the shelf the SP 1.7 was on and now there is a good 2-3" above the unit.  All is well now.  If you look at the top of unit you will see a set of screws that run from front to back right about where your thermostat is.  These screws directly bolt the top cover to a heat sink.

As long as you say it's normal.  I have no worries. :D

Hi levi,

There are 2 very large transformers in the SP1.7 on the left side ( 1 for Digital and 1 for Analog) and they put out a lot of current so the heatsink can get quite hot under drive conditions.

I moved the temp gauge to the right close to the volume knob.  The temp goes down @9 degrees cooler.
