I am seeing a number of these systems with the speakers set up within a couple of feet from the frontwall.  Being dipolars should'nt these be set up in a similar manner to OBs, away from the frontwall about 4' or so?  If not, why are they different?

Thanks,
Ed
Mine look close..but they are 4' (from the panel) to the wall.
Hard to judge with that pictures perspective.

Thanks for the replys guys.  I certainly understand having to move speakers around for domestic reasons.  I was just curious how the OBs were subject to negative effects when placed too close to the frontwall while the planers weren't.  It sounds like most of you are running your planers out from the wall.

Thanks again,
Ed

Can't speak for others but if I leave the Maggies too close to the wall they lose some of the depth and wide open soundstage - kinda close in and get beamy. By that I mean there is a limited sweet spot at my listening position and I can change the placement of instruments by moving my position by a few feet one way or the other. When I get them out from the wall (about 3-4') the stage gets wider and that effect disappears. They still sound great when against the wall but not as good as they can.

the rear channels, also in Koa wood and also quite large, they need some work.  And a  better shot of the wood and granite on the front channels

What kind of stands are you using for those?

Sound Anchor Stands - replaced stock Anchor spikes with Herbies Threaded Stud Gliders - a must have for positioning/moving Maggies with ease when stand is either pushed or pulled by its base - the speaker simply slides on low pile carpet or hardwood - hence eliminating physical contact with panels.

Hey J., neat room treatments. I have a stack of OC703 panels that I still have to cover, before installing, for bass traps and side panels. They looks similar to what you are using. What are the other (diffraction?) panels?

I noticed you have some in front of the corner bass traps, my MMG's backwave partially shoots at the back corners also, so this is something I could try.

JK ... You are correct the absorbers are indeed OC 703 – three of the absorbers are 4” centre one is 6” – the left corner is ‘Superchunked’ as are all corners in the room – diffusers are combination of T fusors/Q fusors – after much experiment with speaker placement AND front wall treatment finally settled on present arrangement.

OK, they are an Auralex product. I use their "SubDude HD" platforms under my subs. Thanks, I check it out.

Gives new meaning to the term "Planar porn"   :green:

Way to go Andyr, definably a project to be proud of.

If I can ever get my "Deli framed" MMG project finished, I'll post them here. Can say that the hardwood frame mod is the way to go!
