Kallax, and Expedit before it, are perfect for LP storage and the materials are more than up to the task. I can understand someone wanting to spend more money and have something where they can take great pride in the quality, but for people who'd rather distribute their resources elsewhere, Kallax is the one to beat.
With four decades of IKEA experience, I feel confident in vouching for the quality of their materials and construction provided expectations are appropriate.
A few golden rules:
- Follow the instructions. I know that sounds stupidly obvious, but it's unbelievable how many people skip a part, use the wrong tools, do things in the wrong order ...
- If it's not designed to be mobile, be prepared to dismantle it in order to move it whether across the room, across town or across the country.
- IKEA don't make products destined to become family heirlooms. There's plenty of furniture available that will last a lifetime or two, but most people balk at paying over $5k for a couch. When choosing a $500 couch ...
Good luck!
