I will use a hd via computer hooked up via usb to my preamp.  Or ipods with lossless songs.
This will be fine for me.

Another option would be to use a raspberry pi as a music streamer.
you can connect your hdd to it and output audio either by usb or by coax spidif
for coax spidif you need to buy an add on card

But setting up a raspberry pi would need quiet a bit of tweaking with your router
