jd3 ordered a pair of HT2-TL's that he was to pick up at AKFest.  When he and Jill saw and heard my SoundScape 8's, he asked if it would be possible to take them home instead.

Well, I needed them until our first manufacturing batch of woofers arrived for this new design.  But I told him that as soon as they did, he could certainly have my speakers (which he picked up recently).

At any rate, that left me without SS8's.  So, just after AKFest, I started work on a replacement pair which we just finished.  Here are some pics...

And a close-up...

Happy listening...duh, never mind.

Absolutely beautiful!  I've never been a fan of the burls, but this pepperwood changed my taste (from an earlier pair of ST's or SCST's I think they were).

So... happy listening to you!

Musical artwork Jim, exquisite, hope you get to keep these for a long time. But of course if not, you can just have the artisan build you another pair.  :thumb:

I've often thought that the ultra expensive Tidal loudspeakers were the most beautiful I've ever seen. No longer. Those SoundScape 8's have solidly moved into first place. Awesome work Jim!

They were even more impressive in person!  Now, you just have to make sure you don't sell them!!!

You have great taste, Jim.  I'm happy you have a personal pair of SS8's and hope you hang onto them for a while. :)

I rarely comment about all the beautiful speakers you produce, but those are simply stunning!

They are finest looking speakers that I have ever seen.  :thumb:

The ribbon is offset because of the wider cabinet?

Even the narrower 8" SongTowers have an offset tweeter.

Quote from: jsalk
As for the tweeter position, it is for diffraction control.  Centering the tweeter would certainly be easier since the same template can be used for both speakers.  But it is not ideal.

Keeping the analysis simple, if you center the tweeter, the distance to each side of the cabinet is the same and sound at a specific wavelength will hit both sides at the same time, creating diffraction artifacts in the process (think of turbulence at the edge of a wing).  You still get diffraction artifacts if you move the tweeter off center, but those artifacts occur at two different frequencies rather than one and the effect is cut in half.  So you get two smaller sets of artifacts rather than a single larger one. The result is response that is a little smoother.

Gotcha, and you're right, the tweeter is offset on the SoundScape 8 and M7 because of the wider baffle as compared to the SoundScape 10 and 12's baffle-less (at least on three sides) tweeter pod.

Outstanding! Those look amazing :thumb:
Had gone back and fourth with jim on this veneer and some closeout cocobolo for my SS8's.
Decided to go with the cocobolo. I'm sure they will look just as fantastic as these.
Hopefully taking delivery sometime in early Sept.
