That's too bad about Bulletplugs.  Fortunately, my digital cable came already hardwired via Steve.

Was your Waveterminal used with coax digital out, also bypassing K-mixer?

I'm interested in some more comparisons between Waveterminal coax out vs. USB Select. There does seem to be a certain sound with USB connection, I must say, and your description "fluid" is close..

As I said, my unit has both digital & usb cables hard wired in. Also the USB cable that comes with the Transit looks very cheap. Thats why I decided to upgrade it.

Yes I previously utlized the rca digital out jack on the EGO Systems 24/96 sound card. So I am comparing coax digital out on both units.

I am also running the USB Select in 24bit 96k htz mode.

There absolutely is no comparison between the two devices. The USB Select blows the PCI EGO WaveTerminal away. Not even close. I can hardly believe it myself.

Makes the computer driven fron end very interesting from an audio standpoint.

Definately has been one of the best purchases (price to performance) I have made in audio. I was very apprehensive thinking that this USB device might not give me any real gain in audio quality. End result, the USB Select has made my PC audio based system complete.

Finally, Vinnie is also a great guy to deal with.

Hi StevenACNJ,

Many thanks for posting your valuable follow-up impressions!

I am very happy to hear that you are loving your USB Select.  A pleasure dealing with you too, thanks!  :)

Cheers!

Hi Vinnie
For those of us running Macs who want to use firewire, can you make one up from the M-Audio firewire audiophile Transit unit?
Can the firewire cable be hardwired in?
Can it be configured for either or both coax RCA or AES/EBU?
Would the price be in the same ballpark, or more?
Thanks

Hi RichardS,

Can you please send me a link to the M-Audio firewire unit?

I'm sure it can mod it, but I'm not sure about the pricing until I get my hands on it...

Thanks,

RichardS

Hi Vinnie
here's the link:

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FirewireAudiophile-main.html

Just realized the MSRP is $349, and it has other functions that would just need to be bypassed, so it might be cheaper just to buy a PC dedicated to audio. But I'd be interested in your thoughts anyway.
Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the link.  I'd need to get my hands on one to determine what mods can be done, and the pricing info.
