DAC on board older NRB or ST studio amps?
« on: 8 Apr 2020, 03:37 am »

I was looking for something else on ebay, and came across this auction for a Bryston DAC card.

I contacted the seller, he says it was in a studio version of an amplifier... he says it came in NRB or ST series amps.

I've bought and sold a few NRB and ST amplifiers, been watching used sales sites and auctions for close to 20 years for Bryston components, and never heard or seen an NRB or ST series amplifier that had an onboard DAC.

Was this out of a Pre-amp from more recent series?  It's clearly a Bryston PCB.....

Curiosity killing me.  Anyone have an idea what its from?

I have never seen an NRB or ST series integrated amplifier. I would have stumbled across one accidentally by now. As far as I know, NRB and ST were series of Bryston's power amplifiers.

That being said, I cannot say with certainty. My guess is that it belongs to a pre-amp or an integrated amp. If I were you, I'd look up the info on the DAC chip and see when it was released since that should at least give you an idea about how old it is and therefore which series it belongs to.
