Old 75 ohm cable
« on: 21 Feb 2016, 02:26 am »
Hi all,

Years ago, when cable TV was the only option, I ran hundreds of feet of cable through various walls from the cellar to first and second floor rooms and to a one story wing. We watched movies, tvs and recorded and played movies through various cable connected devices. I'm wondering if all that cable is acting like an antenna, or is a source for RFI. I have a pair of interconnect cables running parallel to and within a few inches of the old cable which was disconnected years ago. Could that be a problem? I wouldn't mind removing it if it is.

Doubt it's an issue. Coax is well shielded. Not to mention, when you were using the cables in the past, you weren't concerned with them acting as an antenna (as that would mess with your signal). So why worry about it now (when they're not being used)?

No issues at all. One of the virtues of coax cable is that it's well shielded. You can run different signals through coax cables that are touching each other with no problems.
