The new Stereophile has an article about this composer/arranger and band leader and my hat is off to them for re-introducing jazz fans to this man.  He IS the man for larger jazz works for me.  I think I read that a new album might be in the making but The Artist Selects from EMI is fine as wine.  Included are masters from his Pacific Jazz releases in the 60's like Blues for Yna Yna, Viva Tirado, Milestones, Lighthouse Blues, Paco, etc, etc.  He is from L.A. and so many of his compositions are infused with Latin rhythms.  He uses horns like nobody.

+1 for GW. Many greats came up in his band too, like Bobby Hutcherson, Snooky Young, Joe Pass, and my hero Eric Dolphy. Is my West Coast pride protruding?  :D
