Huh! Hi-rez is a waste of time according to this article.

I am very far from a hi-rez expert, but I found this viewpoint a little offensive to my ego and my "golden" ears:

One of the paragraphs quoted here:

"This means we can use low rate 44.1kHz or 48kHz audio with all the fidelity benefits of 192kHz or higher sampling (smooth frequency response, low aliasing) and none of the drawbacks (ultrasonics that cause intermodulation distortion, wasted space). Nearly all of today's analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and digital-to-analog converters (DACs) oversample at very high rates. Few people realize this is happening because it's completely automatic and hidden."

I have seen this before. This is a complete misunderstanding of hi rez. Hi rez dacs fed a 192 signal drives a stronger voltage signal with less noise attached to the amplified signal. It makes tweaking and system building far more meaningful in obtaining a person's own listening taste. Its just better.

I've seen this before, too. Had it been published 30 years ago, it could--and no doubt would--have been cited as "proof" that CD's were, as advertised, "perfect sound forever." Uh-huh.

No offense Pete but this has been discussed here on this Circle ad nauseum.  This is an old article and has been discussed here (and at least five times on Asylum and CA).  I am gonna lock this thread, as I don't want to revisit it again.  Feel free to comment on these three threads about the same article.
