I think there is already a thread here about this. That 21% for 1-star reviews is brutal and is probably all you need to know about the quality.

If you're shopping for new $100 amplifiers, I think you have a much better chance of getting something that's not horrible junk if you go solid state rather than tubes.

Yep, build out one of Folsom's boards. It's actually an excellent amp for cheap. Or even order a cheap TDA7297 amp off ebay for $6. They sound pretty good, can be upgraded to sound very good, and will still only cost as much as going out for dinner.
