Title: Quad 2905 logo
Post by: liffy99 on 15 May 2018, 08:25 am
Dont suppose anyone knows how to check / replace the neon bulb in the Quad logo on a pair of 2905s ?
Speaker works perfectly but cannot turn on or change the brightness of the logo.
Can the badge be removed from the front ? Is it safe to do so ? Or does the speaker have to be partially dismantled ?
Thanks

You do need to remove the wood top trim. Then remove the metal side trims.  After that remove the front steel perforated grille by unscrewing about 16 small metal screws.  A small PC board can be found attach to the back of the front grille.  Wire cable to the PC board may have come loose.

Thanks Molar33
Eeek, so complicated for a loose wire or bulb.
I’ll take a look - is it obvious how the trims are removed and is doing all this in danger of mucking up the grille cloth ? Guess I had better let them discharge overnight too.

Velcro like strips are use to attach grille cloth so you should be okay.  Take your time removing the black sheet metal screws.  They can easily strip and are pain to remove.  Also careful not to damage the dust cover while removing the grille.

But how do you remove the top trim and side bars ? Must admit I am getting cold feet about doing this. Perhaps I should just leave it until the time the Quads may need a service.

You can use a butter knife wrap in tape so you will not scratch the top trim.  Wedge the knife in between the trim and side bars to lift the trim up.  After removing the trim,  remove the side bars by removing a couple of phillip screws and nuts.  Not hard at all.

I used suction cups to get the top decoration panel off.  Took some pulling but it worked using two cups at the same time.  I used the largest I could find that were not too large to make a tight seal (i.e. they did not lap over the edge of the trim).

I used inside type suction cups but I wonder if the smallest auto-body repair cups would be too large.
